In Fall/Winter 2024, HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE introduced a stunning new collection titled "Immersed in the Wilds of Creativity." This collection marks a powerful collaboration between the iconic fashion house and celebrated French designer-artist Ronan Bouroullec.

This wasn’t just about prints or patterns. Bouroullec’s abstract drawings were transformed into flowing garments through pleats, silkscreen, embroidery, and heat transfers by Issey Miyake. The result? Pieces that look and feel like walking canvases.

Some of the standout designs include RB_DRAWING PLEATS, which integrate Bouroullec’s pen strokes into Issey Miyake’s signature pleated textures. The RB_DRAWING COAT features silkscreened graphics in oversized, statement-making silhouettes. The RB_DRAWING PRESS SHIRT uses a heat-transfer technique that makes each shirt unique—no two are exactly alike. Accessories such as scarves and cushions extend the artistic language into everyday use.

Initially, Bouroullec was hesitant about entering the fashion world. But the open and respectful approach from Issey Miyake’s design team encouraged him to say yes. Their collaboration was not about simply applying art onto clothing—it was about transformation. His sketches were interpreted as movement, given form through folds, and animated through fabric.

To accompany the release, Issey Miyake presented the sketches and final garments side by side in exhibitions at their GINZA and SEMBA locations in Japan. The displays invited viewers to witness the creative evolution from drawing to design, from still image to living expression.

This collaboration matters not just for its beauty, but for what it says about creative process. It proves that art doesn’t have to be confined to walls or pedestals—it can be worn, lived in, and made part of daily life. It’s a powerful example of how respectful dialogue between disciplines can lead to innovation that feels fresh, human, and inspiring
